Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi is a renowned vocalist of Hindustani classical music of the “Rampur Sadarang Parampara” (Rampur Gharana). Born in a culturally active family of Uttarakhand, Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi started learning classical music at the age five from Pt. Shanker Nath Patil, an eminent musician from Karnataka. Later, she continued her training in Hindustani Music with the renowned classical vocalist, Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati, under the Guru Shishya Parampara.
Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi has received a large number of medals and prizes for her performances right from her childhood. She received the Sahitya Kala Parishad Scholarship from University of Delhi during her student days. She completed here M.Phil and Ph.D. in music from University of Delhi for a “Comparative study of classical and vocal music with the folk music of Uttarakhand”.
She has been a resource person for numerous national and international seminars as well as workshops.
She has performed– and has been widely applauded– in India and abroad, including the 5th Yuva Mahotsava organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad Delhi, Indian International Rural Cultural Centre, Acharya Brahaspati Sangeet sammelan – Chandigarh, Pauri Festival– Pauri(Uttarakhand). Vimla Devi Foundation Nyas– Ayodhya, “Subha” Bharat Bhawan– Bhopal, Shakti Sthal New Delhi, Summer Festival– India International Centre Delhi, Vaggeyakar Series of IGNCA,“Uttradhikar” – Raza Foundation, “Malwa Mahotsav” – Partner, Maharasthra, I.C.C.R Programme in Mauritius, “Bhakti Sangeet Utsav” by Sahitya Kala Parishad– Nehru Park, New Delhi, “Shyam Sangeet Sammelan Samiti” Kullu in collaboration with NZCC and has recently performed in Tansen Samaroh 2021, which was highly appreciated to name a few.
She has produced 23 episodes on Gharanaas of Indian Classical Music and 9 episodes on folk music of Uttrakhand for National Archives of All India Radio. She has lent her voice for Doordarshan, T.V. Documentaries for Discovery Channel and Salam Balak Trust as well as numerous other sponsored radio programs. Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi is an “A grade” artist of A.I.R and Doordarshan as a classical vocalist and has been in the panel of ICCR since 1999. She has an album to her credit titled “Yeh Naina” released by Music Today and three DVD’s called “Teach Yourself Classical Music”. She has also sung a Thumari for a feature film “What the fish” in which Dimple Kapadia played the lead role. Her book – “Uttrakhand Sangeet evam Sanskriti” – was released by Chief Minister of Uttrakhand at the time, Shri Ramesh Chandra Pokhriyal “Nishank” . Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi has been training young artists under Guru Shishya Parampara for over 25 years and has been performing vocal recitals of classical music. At present, she is the Head of the Department of Music at Bharati College, University of Delhi.
She had been appointed as the member of the Cultural Committee for 26th January, Republic Day parade 2021 by the Government of India. She is currently the editor of Sangana Journal of Sangeet Natak Academy for their special issue on Amrit Mahotsav. Daugther-in-law to the renowned musicologist Acharya K.C.D Brahaspati, Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi is carrying forward his legacy spreading his Taalim(teaching methodology) through live lectures by CEC-UGC Vyas Channel for the last several years which are highly acclaimed both national and international. She has documented the compositions of Acharya Brahaspati under the title“24 Ragas 124 Bandishes” for the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. Her repertoire consists of Khayal,Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Bhajans and Folk.
